Leashes of Valor Partners with User1st to Provide Digital Accessibility to Veterans

April 21, 2020

Partnership will result in reaching more veterans with visual and mobility impairments, nearly 2500k reached since launch

[ April 21, 2020] – Leashes of Valor (LOV), a national nonprofit dedicated to providing every post 9/11 veteran with PTSD or TBI with a highly-trained service dog, announces its partnership with User1st to reach more veterans through digital accessibility services.

LOV is committed to reaching every post 9/11 veteran possible. By working with User1st to improve the accessibility of the website, LOV can ensure veterans who also experience visual and mobility impairments have access to the LOV program. User1st donated digital accessibility services in support of LOV’s mission of saving more veterans’ lives. Since the launch of the software, nearly 2,500 people have used services such as a screen reader, keyboard navigation, color contrast, and more.

“The Internet is intended to work for all people. Acts like the ADA are trying to make this dream come true for all of us. When technology fails to meet the needs of not just the masses but all, we are failing in our ability to provide invaluable services to our community which is comprised of more than 158,000 blind or visually impaired veterans,” said Danique Masingill, Co-Founder and President of Leashes of Valor. “Thus, the impact of disability is radically changed through companies like User1st because their Website programming removes barriers to communication and interaction that many people face in the physical world. This gift is beyond measure in returning freedom and independence.”

Digital accessibility is the ability of a website, mobile application or electronic document to be easily navigated and understood by all users of varied abilities, including those who have visual, auditory, motor or cognitive disabilities.

“As a veteran myself, I understand the importance of supporting all veterans and the sacrifices they make for their country. User1st was founded with the purpose of helping those with disabilities gain access to the services they need. If our technology helps Leashes of Valor save even just one veterans’ life, we have helped fulfill both missions,” said Amihai Miron, CEO of User1st.

Social distancing requirements as a result of COVID-19 have caused LOV to temporarily suspend its in-person program. Isolation for people living with PTSD can be detrimental. Enhancing LOV’s ability to reach more veterans during the COVID-19 pandemic allows LOV to amplify its reach.
